Hurricane KARL:
Veracruz, VER, Mexico

For iCyclone, 2010 has been the year of rush-job, nail-biter chases.

Like its early-season brother, Alex, Hurricane Karl was another tiny cyclone approaching the east coast of Mexico.  But Karl was a more serious affair—a severe hurricane threatening a major population center.  And when it rammed ashore near Veracruz on 17 September, it made history as the strongest known hurricane to hit the coast of the Bay of Campeche.

iCyclone got there just in time, clipping the edge of Karl’s eye as the storm’s violent core raked the northern outskirts of this old Mexican city.
