My very first chase. I was too young and broke to drive, so I did it by train—from Washington, DC, through New York, NY, along the Connecticut and Rhode Island coasts to Providence. It was a primitive effort—all I had on me was a duffel bag with a change of clothes, $200 cash, and a paper tracking map. No camera, no mobile phone, no barometer, no nothing.
